About Mathsduck
Mathsduck.co.uk first went online in 2007 as a resource to support the learning and teaching of Maths, primarily at Uppingham Community College.
Since then it has undergone several tweaks and has included various resources including the Attendance calculator (which was the first thing on the site), the Module calculator, games and revision resources for both key stage 3 SATs and GCSEs..
The most popular resources on the site have included the lists of contents of GCSE modules and the games.
Why Mathsduck?
The website Mathsduck.co.uk gets it's name from a large rubber duck that lives in the classroom of Mr Dolan, the sites author. The reason why there is a large rubber duck in the classroom is a long story, but that's where the name comes from.
The new Mathsduck site
In time for the start of 2011, Mathsduck has a brand new site. The old design has been in place since the 2007 and needed a refresh. Also with the changes to the Maths curriculum (scrapping of SATs and the new GCSE) some of the content is out of date, or soon will be.
Mathsduck is now focussed on providing games to aid the revision of Maths. The A-Z index of games is still in place and there are now lots of games to revise specific topics.
Other revision resources have been moved over to Mathsduck's new sister site, revisemaths.org.uk, which has video explanations of topics and overviews of the new GCSE units that are similar to the ones that have been popular on Mathsduck.
Some of the old bits and pieces are still available. See the Mathsduck archives for details.
Who created Mathsduck?
Mathsduck.co.uk is written and maintained by Mr T Dolan, who currently teaches Maths at Uppingham Community College in the UK.
As well as Mathsduck, Mr Dolan has created several other Maths and education related websites, including:
For students
- mrdolan.co.uk - The student facing hub for Mr Dolan's web based resources
- revisemaths.org.uk - Video explanations of Maths topics, worksheets and more
- uccmaths.co.uk - The Uppingham Community College Maths department website
